Financial Freedom for Nonprofit Professionals: A Call for Change

Nonprofit professionals, the backbone of our communities, deserve better.

They’re the educators, case managers, advocates, community navigators, artists, and healers who show up every day to make change happen. They hold grief, organize joy, respond to crisis, and build toward liberation. But despite their dedication to serving others, many are struggling to stay afloat financially.

A recent report by Independent Sector and UNITED for ALICE, ALICE in the Nonprofit Workforce: A Study of Financial Hardship, highlights the depth of this issue:

  • More than 1 in 5 nonprofit workers live paycheck to paycheck.

  • Nearly a third of workers in social assistance and arts organizations face financial hardship.

  • Black and Hispanic nonprofit professionals are twice as likely to experience financial stress compared to their white counterparts.

These are not isolated cases. These are systemic problems rooted in underinvestment, pay inequities, and a chronic lack of supports for those doing the most essential work.

At Origami Wealth, we believe that financial freedom should not be a privilege. It should be a possibility for everyone, especially those who serve others.

That’s why we’re building a financial wellness solution tailored for the nonprofit sector, one that meets people where they are, centers their lived realities, and helps them build toward a future of stability, possibility, and peace.

Because financial well-being isn’t just personal. It’s collective. And the well-being of the people powering change matters.

This is why we do the work.

And we’re just getting started.
